gastroesophageal/ Reflux disease (GERD), reflux disease gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric reflux, or acid reflux disease is chronic symptoms or mucosal damage caused by gastric acid from the stomach into the esophagus [1]. A typical symptom is heartburn.
GERD is usually caused by changes in the barrier between the stomach and esophagus, including abnormal relaxation of lower esophageal sphincter, which normally has the upper stomach is closed, impaired expulsion of gastric reflux or esophageal hiatal hernia. These changes may be permanent or temporary ("transient").
Another type of acid reflux, which causes respiratory symptoms and larynx, it is called laryngeal reflux (LPR) or reflux disease extraesophageal (EERD). Unlike GERD, LPR, it is unlikely heartburn, and is sometimes called silent reflux.
