Dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea, also known as menstrual pain, is characterized b cramping of the lower abdomen experienced by woman just before and during their menstrual period Such sensation is caused by high level of prostaglandin production. Dysmenorrhea is not life-threatening but the discomfort associated with the condition can be severe enough to interfere with everyday activities for a few days every month.
Advice:
• Apply a hot water bottle or heating pad on the lower abdomen to help relieve the pain.
• Drink plenty of water, avoiding salt and caffeine, to prevent water retention and bloating.
• Eat a healthy diet, rich in iron, calcium and vitamin B complex. Avoid skipping meals.
• Rest and relaxation may alleviate the pain during menstrual periods.
