Diabetes or diabetes mellitus, is a condition wherein there is a lack of insulin in the body. Insulin, a hormone released b the pancreas, is necessary for breaking down the blood sugar and converting it to energy. In the event that the body does not produce enough insulin, their will be a rise in the blood sugar level.

Patient advice:

• Exercise regularly and maintain an ideal body weight. Check with your physician before taking on any form of exercise routine.
• Check your body regularly for wounds or infections that never heal.
• Monitor your blood or urine sugar regulary.
• Lessen your intake of foods rich in sugar and carbohydrates.
